Hedgehope Hill
Submitted in response to a request from my dad, who has been nagging me to post this for months. (Dad, here it is. Sorry it took me so long to get round to it!)
This reel was written by Alistair Anderson and appears on the Syncopace album released on Brack Crow in 1995. Hedgehope Hill is in the Cheviots in Northumberland. There's a nice pic of it here: http://www.go4awalk.com/userpics/tedtaylor5.php.
Apparently the guitarist Ian Carr persuaded the band that it worked better as a slow reel, so it's played that way on the recording - straightened out and slow like an air. I've been playing it as a session-speed recently and have decided it works that way too, although it was difficult to get used to hearing it that way because of the recording.
The version given here is based on Chuck Fleming's fiddle setting.
