The Glasgow Wedding

This tune was written by Luthier Davy Stuart (http://www.thesession.org/links/index/search?name=Davy+Stuart+) in 1982 to celebrate my marriage to Sabine.

The joke then, of course, was that it was written for Dick Glasgow from Edinburgh!

I had the pleasure of hearing Davy play it with his group Crannachan, before he moved to start a new life in New Zealand.

I was there.................

Remember it well, Dick, and coincidentally, so was Janine, who's been mentioned in 2 tunes recently. I have a video tape from a TV programme of "Crannachan" playing this, and they had a reel to follow it, too. Might have been for Kevin, a good tune , too as I remember.
Frankie Clark and I still play this tune occasionally in sessions, on 2 whistles.[ Keeping an eye on that CD for you ].

The Glasgow Wedding

I have loved this tune for years, so it's great to see it. I've only heard Chris Parkinson's divine version of it, and I'm delighted to learn that it was written for you, Ptarmigan - one wedding gift which will outlast all the others, I should think.

My 81-year-old father got married a couple of weeks ago, and I wrote them a wedding waltz; while it was nowhere near as good as "The Glasgow Wedding", local band Da Hooley played it to perfection, and I was as pleased as punch.

Yeah Kenny, they called it the KJ Reel.
As I remember, it was actually Jimmy's 'reel' version of the Waltz.
I must let kevin hear that sometime - wonder what that reel would sound like on a 6 string Bass?

Nigel, congrats to yer Dad & his new wife.
Wow - 81 years old & still going strong!
Looks like you have a lot of good years of music in front of you too then Nigel?
By the way, have you posted your Wedding Waltz here?

The Glasgow Wedding

Ptarmigan said, "...Looks like you have a lot of good years of music in front of you too then Nigel?..."

I certainly hope so! When I was younger, I seem to have lots of time for composing tunes, but these days things like earning a living has meant that it's usually only for big events.

"By the way, have you posted your Wedding Waltz here?"

No, I usually only submit "trad" tunes, but since you're interested:

Very nice Nigel. I'm sure Bill & Morag were absolutely delighted to have their very own tune on the day.

Oh, kool! I've been looking for a new waltz to play and this is just the thing.
