I got this lovely tune from the late Peter Fleming of Mitchelstown many years ago. He played it as more of a "set-dance" than a strathspey. I think it's a Con Foley composition. Never heard anyone else playing it.

I love it, this is now one of my favorite strathspeys, thank you for posting it. Seamus Connolly is one of favorite teachers.

I have Con playing this on a recording, I'll note to seek it out and post a transcription here. Another sweet man and a fine player...with quite a few compositions to his name...

"Marian McCarthy's Hornpipe" ~ by Con Foley
Con had a playful nature, and a beautiful way also with his fiddling, charm all around. He also didn't always stick with 'convention'. Amongst his store of many tunes were barndances/schottisches, highland flings, and loads of Limerick joy in the way of slides and polkas. This tune her referred to as a 'hornpipe', despite the unusual measure count. He did also compose 'set dances', as for 'The Penny School of Dancing'. Also, he didn't repeat the second part for this, but there's nothing keeping you from following it as Seamus Connolly carries it, another well respected musician. Anyway, as promised, direct and note for note from Con's playing, not fussing about, but none of the 'few' ornaments he chose to put into it:

Sorry, that got past, the eight measure of the B-part, con didn't 'snap' the e<a but played it with the usual swing shown through most of the transcription, or e>a. Since the given transcription wasn't far off the recording I was using a cut-and-paste of that and just editing it to conform to Con's playing... That said, you know I like an occassional 'snap' myself, but no wet towls please...
