Leddy From Cavan
This is an Ed Reavy composition, transcribed here from the playing of Liz and Yvonne Kane on their cd, The Well Tempered Bow. I like how this tune wanders from D dorian to D major.
On the Reavy website, Ed's son Joe has this to say about this tune:
"John Leddy and Ed worked in the plumbing business together and became close friends over the years. John was proud of Ed's accomplishments, particularly because both were Cavanmen. His son John Jr. was a promising young fiddler who studied with Ed in the Forties. John Sr. played the fiddle a bit himself and had a great love of traditional music."

Great tune! I need a böhm flute to play it though.

Good grief!
I have just learnt this tune and introduced it to the band and now EVERYONE will be playing it! Cheers Will
It is a great tune and we play it after Splendid isolation by Brendan McGlinchey.
I see you make the F natural in bar 2 of the A tune too. The book has it as sharp but I don't think that sounds as good.

Will, just to check: is the 2nd to last bar of the A-part as written, with a top F#?

Dow, yes, as the Kane's play it, that "f" is sharp. As are the low "Fs" in the previous measure.

Thanks, Will, I've been meaning to learn this for a while after listening to it for so long. It kind of reminds me of the groove I love when playing 'Trip to Nenagh'. This made it a little easier to sort out. I think I'll play it along with the CD now to celebrate.

Slainte, you don't need a bohm if you have a keyed wooden- you just have to swap between the 2 Fs depending on where you are in the tune.

Yeah, John Brady plays this on the keyed simple-system flute.

This is a sweet tune
I'm working away to put this one onto a keyless Murray flute... A labour of love...LOL... The muted half-hole F-natural gives it a kind of creepy feel so that the twist into major is all that much more jolly...
