River Driver
As you may have guessed, this isn't a tune but the melody to a song. I put it on because I thought it was worth knowing.

This is a (muddled) transcription of the song from the new Great Big Sea album? (For instance, the first eighth note should clearly be a pickup note -- the entire tune as you've given it is shifted an eighth off of what it should be.)
I'd post the proper tune from the Peacock collection, but I don't know about the legality of copying it. About the song, they say "Mr. O'Quinn who comes from the Codroy Valley learned this shanty-boy lament in the lumbercamps. The Codroy Valley was settled by the Scots and French of Cape Breton, and the original form of the name O'Quinn was Aucoin." It's recorded on the long out-of-print LP Songs of the Newfoundland Outports, and if you get the digital Peacock collection they've got the same recording in that.
