Sounds Familiar?
This is a mighty little strathspey from Brenda Stubbert's fiddle playing recorded on "The Heart of Cape Breton," a compilation album of live C.B. music. She nearly lifts the roof off the concert hall playing it. It's untitled, but I guess it was originally a melody taken from puirt a beul.
The second part of the tune might sound familiar to some of you, and in fact the very similar phrases appear in several Irish reels. The most well-known among them is probably the Merry Sisters of Fate, whose two-part setting is known as the Shepherd's Daughter.
