Long Acre (The)

This is the tune which is actually on the Kevin Burke/Ged Foley In Tandem recording rather that Longacre.
Hope it's faithful enough.

Isn't this a fling?

As far as I know, they're only good friends :-)

A nice tune that Kevin Burke plays with a nice little pulsating swing. Can be heard at the Kennedy Center's archive (because I've got too much time, I can tell you that this set starts about 6 minutes into the program) http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/artist_detail.cfm?artist_id=BURKEKEVIN

And of course, you can download the track from Green Linnet website: http://www.greenlinnet.com/shopping/search_detail.cfm?ProductID=1090

Cath's transcription is basically accurate except that the bar lines are in the wrong places.

And it just dawned on me how similar this is (especially in the B part) to Miss (Mrs.) Galvin's: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/624

Actually Will, I did start the way you did, and then got myself into a right 2 and 8 with the bars, so started with the FE at the beginning. I'm just about to do the T Cuz Teahan tune that goes after, but perhaps you could preempt me and post if first. ... still getting to grips with the timing!

This is a hornpipe

Kevin Burke introduced this tune as a hornpipe and paired it with Cuz Teahan's when he played at the local pub here last month.

Cath, if it's this one--http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/444--save yourself the trouble.

On the Long Acre, the first two notes (FE) are the intro, aka the anacrusis, the "pick up," or lead in. So they go before the first measure to get the phrasing lined out right.

Actually, the tune Kevin Burke plays after this is the other Cuz Teahan's: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1615

The Long Acre was also written by Kevin Burke.

Thanks Will, I did notice - I'm sure the link from the recording is only recent, but it did save me the trouble.

And I have changed the first part of the ABC notation.

The Long Acre

For anyone who is interested, the long acre refers to the strip of grass that grows along the side of the road and here in Ireland in the past it was common for a farmer to let his cattle out to eat it.
Good luck
