I'd be interested to know the origin of this tune and why write it out with the altered jig rhythm i.e. doted notes.

Origin of the tune
I wrote it (Judy Hawkins). (unless it swam up out of my subconscious from some long forgotten hearing? anyone know of another source for it?)
I wrote it out with the dotted notation on account of most people around my neck of the woods (Massachusetts) playing exactly what's written, rather than making the traditional assumptions, so I'm in that habit myself.
