The Birthday Reel
Composed by our very own Geoff Pollitt http://www.thesession.org/members/display.php/2918. We were having tunes earlier this year and he taught this to me. I found it was so catchy it didn't take me long to pick it up. I thought the first couple of bars were a bit like a minor version of Dogs Among The Bushes http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/595. Now every time I start humming that tune to myself in my car, it always turns all minor and ends up becoming Geoff's tune.

Many thanks for posting this Mark.
Mark improved the third bar in the B tune putting in Cnaturals instead of As and made it sound a lot better. Cheers.
I wrote this earlier this year for my Mum's Birthday; hence the imaginative title.
We do this one followed by Paddy Lynn's Delight.

I'd forgotten about those Cnats. That's just the way I had it written down. That's how it turned out after we played it through a few times wasn't it? I hope I've transcribed it accurately enough for you. I'm going to try to introduce this to my session. I think it'll go down well with our fiddlers.

Sometimes I find bar 7 of the B-part coming out as |fefg afgf| or with a roll |~f3g afgf|. Also in bar 3 of the A-part I find myself wanting to vary the rhythm a bit and go |AF~F2 DFCF|.

I like those variations to Mark. I've just been trying them and they sound good.
We agreed the Cnats at my place ...they didn't take me by surprise; you transcribed it just right.
I hope the Sydney chapter enjoy it. Cheers.

I've not realized first the strange mode of this tune and played it in G major- works fine too with little alteration .....
