Translation

The gaelic translation is "They stole my wfe last night".

"Ghoid Iad Mo Bhean Uam An Raoir" how do you pronounce that?

This comes from the Patrick MacDonald collection.

Hey, Sam. I was just thinking about posting a different version of this melody. Scots piper Finaly MacDonald recorded it as a nameless waulking song on the flute with fiddler Iain MacFarlane. I might misremember, but it's something like this:

K: Bm
fede dBB2|dBAB AFE2|fede dBB2|AEFA B3z:|
B2BA B2B2|AFEF DEFA|B2BA B2B2|AEFA B3z:|

It's more like a fling.

Without too much fuss, keeping it basic, here it is with a decidedly highland fling swing t o it, including a second ending. To avoid disappearing notation I've used the asterisk ( * ) in place of the 'lesser than' sing to show the 'snaps' flamin fiddler notated:

T: Ghoid Iad Mo Bhean Uam An Raoir
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: highland fling

Apparently it's played in a variety of styles; I have a nice recording of it done on harp as a slow strathspey, and another of it done on fiddle as a lament.

Already posted Sam.

Done by Alasdair Fraser and Paul Machlis on "The Road North" CD as an air.

MUCH better played slowly INMHO.
