I transcribed this from a compilation CD in a set with another. No title was given for it so I would be pleased if anyone knows it's name. Last year I submitted two polkas by Lucy Farr. I have made up a set using these in the order: Gan Ainm (here submitted); Lucy Farr's no 2 (Nov 25th 2004); Lucy Farr's no1 (Nov 24th 2004).

A long and convoluted family of tunes ~

also, a few names and keys such as A Dorian or in your case, excuse the correction, E Dorian (##):

& not forgetting "Tralee Gaol"... Actually, I prefer your notes to the earlier version of this done out in the dark matter of 32nd notes. I'm sure that contributor must have gotten his geography confused and he'd meant to say Antarctica rather than Australia, long nights and too much caffeine...

I've copied your ABCs and your note on the set you play this with, valued comment, so if this entry goes "POOF!" I will transfer them to the comments the other, unless you do so first...

Hi 'c'. had not considered this in respect to being related to Tralee Goal, or for that matter 'Glen Cottage', which I have also started playing recently.
I already play a version of 'Tralee' within a set which I call 'Fish & Taters'. I contributed that to the session some time ago. I have no details on the source of that set as it was taught to me a very long time ago by a mandoline player and I learnt it on whistle.
Interestingly & recently Johnny O'Leary's was contributed to the session as a slide, but it was more familiar to me as a polka and I was aware of it's closeness to 'Tralee'.
This tune however has much which makes it sufficiently different so I hope it stands as a contribution and hope Jeremy does not remove it but we shall have to wait and see.

So! what do I call it??

"The Glen Cottage Polka #2"
It is the 2nd of the set known as "The Glen Cottage Polkas"... While it shares the same first part with all the others the second part is basically a variant of the other second parts, but as you said, sufficiently different in a few places... In you version, with very little difference aside from basic variations, it exists under this name in several existing collections...

By 'usual variations' I mean, using the first two bars as an example, just four, starting with the least, in this case in both keys of A & E Dorian:
