The Washington
Another of those tunes in which the high part comes first.
Paul Brock writes in the sleeve notes of his LP - 'Mo Chairdin' - "The Washington comes from the playing of William McElligot, a wonderful box player from Newcastlewest, Co Limerick, who spent most of his life in America. He recorded a series of instrumental & vocal recordings in New York between 1934 & 1938. His music was largely unknown in Ireland up to a few years ago when it was featured on the Long Note radio series on RTE."
I wonder how many of you remember The Long Note radio prog on RTE?
Boy was that a sad day when they took that off the air!
