Lovely piece! Thanks for posting it.

It is a lovely tune, and I know I've heard/played it before, and think it maybe from the English Dancing Master by John Playford. Wouldn't have been composed by Playford, but he was a publisher of several collections of dance tunes in 17th century London. Anyone know the actual title?

I've got the complete Playford round here somewhere and it is sounding very familiar, though I recall the A part being different. Will try to look it up later to see what the title is.

I also think this is a late Renaissance piece composed in north Europe, most likely in Netherlands or England. In fact it sounds similar to some of Dutch recorder player Jacob van Eyck's tunes.

P.S. Jack Gilder might know it.

Sure I had this on an LP years ago
Of what was then called 'Early Music' - Praetorius and all that stuff. I'll go excavating.

Parson's Farewell
Certainly Playford, and called "Parsons Farewell".

This is neither a Bouree or a Barndance.

That's how I found it in the book I have, but good to know it has a name =]

"Parson's Farewell"
There is also a specific country dance that often comes attached to this tune... As Hetty and others will know...

This is a Dutch tune called ''Blauw garen en koperdraad''. In the Netherlands it is played quite often but not exactly the way it is written down here. And most people play it in Dminor. A very nice tune, and after hearing it once or twice anyone can join in because it's very easy and catchy.

Falderalala, don't just leave us hanging with that, give us a transcription, please...

Looking at ABC stuff makes me feel a bit dyslexic, but I think the way you wrote it down is almost the same as I would play it. Whith the same chords and everything.

I am dyslexic Falderalala, if mildly compared to those I've worked with. Maybe ABC notation was made for us?

7 letters!
We're less likely to have a problem with our spelling. That said, I still have to look out for transposing letters, their order, though with ABCs it isn't common. Most of my problems are with short words, like spelling 'of' 'fo', as an example, or mixing 'at' and 'as', 'if' and 'of', and sometimes thinking a word and forgetting to write it down...
All this and I used to work as an editor, small press, and also do proofreading, which is much easier done backwards and from the bottom up...
