To be or not to be ~ do be do be doo...

I'm stuck. Yes, this is out of me, but you know how I feel about that. I guess it could be taken as another bit of output from some sort of possession? I've a couple of ideas for names, but some are just downright foolish or silly. So, while I'm cogitatin', maybe some of you out there in the digital haze can step forward and see if you can find words to fit the melody. No, I don't know why it modulates, it just did that to me and I had not say in it. I'm giving it to you as raw as a carrot just pulled from rough ground. Anyone out there with carrot experience, growing them, will know what I mean. They only go straight if the ground is well tended. So, this one isn't 'straight', and yet, it has all the other bits fitting a classic tune structure, repeats and the like... Sorry, I'm rambling again.

I like this tune and I feel it flows very nicely. Going back from the end of the B section to the A, throw in an F# before the Fnat lead in note and it all seems to make sense. But you do need to give it a name! "The Posession Jig" or "Digital Haze" or just "The Raw Carrott".

If you're looking for a name for it...

My suggestions are"Titivating" and "Put your Face on". (It puts me in mind of young ladies getting ready to go out.)
It seems such a shame that you describe your own ideas for tune names as "downright silly". Can't have that sort of thing in Irish trad, can we! Thank heavens there aren't any others like that, with silly names.

Me too Donough. I'd fussed with that too and then just left it out, as a 'second ending', but you're right, it's got a nice flow. But now that I'm 'recovered' and not feeling so lazy, here it is again, with the move from ^F to =F:

"Waking Nancy" ~ a jig for a dear friend

You know the story, me getting on your cases about 'smoke', mainly because it has had the bad result of taking folks away from us sooner than if they'd never come to be taken by that addiction. Well, another one down, someone we were lucky to know for a short spell of our lives, someone we love dearly and who has been with us even though there are thousands of miles between us. Nancy died this Sunday, October 30th at 6:45 p.m., peacefully, losing her valiantly fought battle with cancer. How you 'woke' Nancy from sleep could determine the outcome of the day. She was a sweet lady, but you did the waking very carefully. The title also refers to something we used to talk about, that a 'wake' or celebration of life was the best way to honour a rich and full life. Part of the wealth of my life is having known this lady, in all shades and moods...

Her husband, William Martin, has a better way with words:

"Nancy was my hell-raising cohort for 34 years. Her prickly exterior and blunt approach will live in infamy, appreciated by the same folks who cherish memories of her huge and tender heart. No one was more fun to play music with. Her energy and spirit were exhilarating, she took chances, often delivered, and successfully incorporated her sense of humor into her music, as well as her life."

Come to think of it, "Damned if I Know" would have been in line with this sometimes cantankerous lady I've had in my mind and heart. She would have liked that title, but I also am hearing her 'groan' the few times I had the foolishness of trying to wake her from sleep. I sometimes wake up daft and full of energy and devilishment, sometimes too early for sanity. I guess I'm lucky, for while she groaned, she never hauled off and hit me, but maybe that's because after prodding her I quickly backed up out of reach.

Damned she had a nice hug and a nice way of laughing, and a weird sense of humour. I can still taste that awful brew she once made for us, skimping and trying to use coffee grinds twice ~ YUCK! There is so much we had left to share. I love your singing voice too Nantz and wish we'd sung together more. You had so much more to teach me. I love and miss you deeply... You gave so much and had so much more to give. You lived a full life, but selfishly I curse tobacco for taking you from us too soon. I can't get you out of my mind and heart, and I never want to lose track of that bit of me that is better for having had you as a friend, as family...
