The Eclipse
Lifted this tune from Jim McKillop's LP - Irish Traditional Music.
I've tried to pick the bones from it, in amongst Jim's flourishes.
As usual, I don't have a clue what key this is in, but at least the tune is here now.

Jim`s Flourishes?
Hello Ptarmigan. If you listen to the Mcguire recording listed here of the Eclipse from 1968 you`ll hear exactly where `Jim`s flourishes `were copied from.

Surely not cos?

Of course not !
But there may be some similar examples of obsessive plaigarism from a certain gentleman mentioned in my new book "Sean Maguire-The man ,his Music and his imitators",which should be in the shops for christmas!

A Scott-Skinner tune?
I think this is a Scott-Skinner tune, although I know a very different A part, a similar B and a quite different C part, however it's probably the same tune, which I was told was composed by JSS.

"The Novelty" by F. A. Morrison
McKillop lifted this tune from his idol Sean McGuire, who recorded it on the LP "Sean Maguire Plays." McGuire probably got the tune from Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1000 Fiddle Tunes) but he mixed up the name with that of another tune in the book. There is an "Eclipse" hornpipe in Ryan's, but this tune is really "The Novelty," a Lancashire clog composed by F.A. Morrison, who also is credited as the composer of "The Avalanche" clog in Ryan's. Just to confuse things further, there is an entirely different Eclipse hornpipe in Kerr's Merry Melodies.
