Change default

Looks like a fun tune, but you should change the ABC default note length to 1/4. Hopefully, that will fix the image--right now you've got 1 and a half beats per bar instead of 3.

A Waltz?

Although I am not familiar with Glackin's recording, I have a hard time seeing this tune as a waltz. Are you familiar with John Doherty's marvelous rendition of this as a very evocative air reputedly learned by Paddy from the wailing of banshee? Spooky! I also have heard the great Belfast fluter Gerry O'Donnell play it as an air. I just can't see banshees waltzing, though what they do after they have announced someone's immanent death is their own business.

Gerry O'Donnell

There's a recording of Gerry playing Paddy's Rambles as an air on 'erne' a cd of traditional music with Tommy O' Sullivan, Cathal Hayden and Jim McGrath. It's a lovely recording with guitar accompaniment. i think it's a beautiful air and the G sharps add a eeriness to it.

Dezi Donnelly

Dezi plays a beautiful rendition of it as an air, he changes the key as well, making it very haunting and very hard to play! But he seems to have a longer version.

Paul McGrattan

Paul McGrattan has recorded another rendition of this haunting air on his latest CD, "Keelwest." Its unaccompanied flute, apparently recorded live at his home during a thunder storm. He uses the ambient sound of the storm as a perfect backdrop for the air.

Still in all, Dezi Donnelly's rendition is by far the most moving I've ever heard, especially when done live.

The Wynd You Know

Ronan Browne does this on his above album, and I was instantly drawn to this very unique sounding piece. Wish I had a G# key on my chanter!
