This is a Willie Clancy tune. It appears on Danu's "When all is Said and Done" that is where I heard it first.

Tommy Keane played this on 'The Piper`s Apron' as the last tune in a set with The Dusty Miller (Seamus Ennis version in Dmaj), and The Silver Slipper.

This is an interesting set of tunes in that they are fairly
similar melodically but have different rythms. The set starts in 3s with The Dusty Miller, alternates between 3s & 4s (slip/single jig) in The Silver Slipper, then finishes in 4s with Willie`s Fling.

I guess this is probably not strictly traditional, Mixing rythms in this fashion, but it sounds great, and it`s good to have fun with the music.

Cheers to all.

Interesting because Tony McManus and Alain Gentry play the same set on "Singing Sands"

I see what you are talking about, especially the A part.

...keeps occupying my head :)

That's an amazingly simple and catchy tune. The Chieftains play it with Altan on 'Water from the well' video/album in 'Donegal Set' http://thesession.org/recordings/display/192 #10 - seems to be missing.

My poor, old arthritic hand is so sore from these right hand rolls on the whistle but the tune is STUCK in my head!

Well, I have permission from my trainer/instructor, Michael Copeland to play this roll two-handed due to my poor old arthritic hands and the pain I was experiencing. Some whistle purists will be taking fits, but it comes out much cleaner that way for me, and how it sounds counts more in my mind (and his) than how it's played. Thanks, Michael!
