Galician ??
This is the other “Gan Ainm” “slide” which was played by the Belfast band “Curlew” on Radio Scotland some years ago. There were actually 3 tunes in the set, the first was the “Gan Ainm” which I posted yesterday, the second was the tune “Over The Water To Charlie”, [ recorded by the “Bothy Band” ], but “Curlew’s” fiddle player played it in a lower key, and the tune posted here was the 3rd tune. I’ve been listening to the recording again to transcribe these tunes and am 99% certain that this is a Galician, or possibly Asturian, tune which the guys have “borrowed”. It certainly has more than a passing resemblance to the 6/8 jig-type tunes, called “munieras” which are played by the 2 traditions in Northern Spain. Again, any information on this tune would be gratefully received. Davy Maguire is going to be at this year’s Copenhagen Irish Festival at the beginning of November. I’ll get someone to ask him about both the tunes, as I’m sure he was the flute player with “Curlew”.

Yes! ~ It does lean more towards Rioja than Guiness...

Seems to be a re-working of the Galician tune Muineira de Chao
