Speed

I usually like to play this tune a little slower than average session speed (I think it sounds best that way). The again, that's just my opinion.

Simpler Version

This is what I play. Easier to play, but it still sounds nice.

Key

Should be E Dorian, right?

Gary, this is one of those murky tunes. Some people play it with hardly any c's (natural or sharped), some people play it with c sharps, some with c nats, and some (myself included) shifting between the two depending on the phrase at hand. If it were me, I'd post it in E Dorian, with a c nat here and there as an accidental. But I wouldn't argue against posting it as E minor. Of course, the A Dorian given in the original post doesn't make sense to me--the tune clearly resolves to E.

Something like lunasa's version

this is a translation of my own from lunasa's version. I agree with will Harmon, it seems to be in E Dorian and shifts beatifully between c sharp and natural and, more, between F sharp and natural.

Chords

Here’s a guitar chord progression I’ve been using on this tune. In standard guitar EADGBE tuning I play the Em up the neck 0-7-9-9-0-0.
