Walking Down Sheepscar Street

This tune came out of my flute last night, shortly after listening to a rather old tape recording of Leeds musicians in West Yorkshire. It's actually just ten years old, but their old-fashioned music sounds like recorded quite a long time ago. Along Sheepscar St. of the city, there are several venues for music, and I used to go to one of them for a regular session while studying in the city. I also passed through the street once a week to walk up to Irish Centre.

I sensed the area had a strong Irish connection, and indeed retired musicians once informed me that there used to be a lot more sessions going around there, especially in a legendary pub, The Roscoe. Some of you must know what it was like better than I do.

"The Sheepcar Jig" ~ well, 'slainte' was next in line wasn't he?

No disrespect meant, honestly, it just came out this way ~

I hope that isn't too far a stretch... It just seemed to be asking for a second ending, and telling me several ways with it...and making a bit more agreement across the tune...

The Sheepscar Jig

Sorry, 'c'. It's a bit late to reply, but I like the variation in the second part you invented, and the simpler title for the tune. I recently noticed there's a nameless traditional tune similar to this.

Nice tune. The A-part reminds me of a tune we play at our session lots - Vincent Broderick's Whistler At The Wake http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/4236.

Yeah, I know that. But the nameless jig on track 8 of Calico's Celanova Sq. is more similar to this.

Alright boys, alright already, hell, there's only 13 notes in an octave to choose from and most of our stuff is limited to one key, so less, and the majority is between two octaves. Besides, 'Calico' left theirs parentless, no name, gan ainm ~ at least this gathering of notes has an identity and now even a 'nickname'...

Hey, does that mean, that 'nameless one', that if someone writes out and submits 'Calico's' similar tune ~ it will have to go in the comments of this one? That would be wild...

Hey, in an interesting twist, Vincent's "Whistler" and slainte's "Sheepscar" make an interesting set with the couple of echoed bars starting things off and taking different directions. I can see the hiccup in a session if you took that route, say from the familiar and sliding into this...
