Clodach's reel

I don't have a name for this reel, so have named it after one of the musicians who I recorded playing it. I found this on a tape from the Willie Clancy week in 1986. Clodach is a flute player from Derry who was in the same flute class as me that year. She was a member of the 80' all-women "supergroup" "Macalla", and was one of the players featured on the tribute album for Frankie Kennedy. She played this reel in a session with her sister Orla on fiddle and Dermot Byrne on accordion.
If anyone has a name for it, I'll happily change the title.

Kenny, I just came across this whilst browsing, and I think you've transcribed it incorrectly from your recording. The tune is in Edor and starts on your bar 7 (1st ending) as you have it. This is the result if I just do a bit of cut & pasting of your own abcs:

Ah , but..........

Well, whang me donger in the kedgeree, Dow !!! A nice bit of detective work there, and I’d find it hard to disagree with the similarities you’ve pointed out in the 2 tunes. However, you have to admit that I have the advantage of having the original recordings which you haven’t heard, yet. I’ll go back and listen to the recordings again, but at the moment, I stand by my transcriptions. I believe them to be accurate renditions of what the musicians played – I wouldn’t have posted them otherwise, would I ? “The Jolly Pigeons” was recorded in 1974. Clodach and Dermot played their tune some 12 years after that, and I’d say it’s the same tune, but somewhere along the line, someone – either accidentally, or deliberately – has changed it, drastically, in my opinion, as it had never occurred to me that the 2 tunes were the same. If you email me your address, I’ll send you over copies of the recordings – [ plus some other stuff, to fill up the tape or mini-disc ], and see if you agree with me. Thanks, by the way, for the putative list of tunes for the “National”. I’ll need to get cracking if I’m to get those up to speed !

Hmm. I'd be interested to hear the recording. I'm just wondering if they kind of noodle and pick up the tune a couple of bars in, you know how you sometimes do when you can't rememeber how it starts or whatever? You could also check by seeing how they end the tune and go into the next one.
