Lost in the Loop

Here is the title track from Liz Carroll's seminal album Lost in the Loop. This is possibly my favourite Liz Carroll tune, in a nice key of C Major and it is just a great tune and John Doyle does great accompaniment on the recording. Thats three Liz Carroll tunes in a row I've submitted so I may take a break from her for a while!

bit of a rhythmical mistake at the end of each half of the tune, those d notes shouldn't be dotted. Why did they come out like that in the sheetmusic, what did I do wrong in the ABC. Would appreciate the help

I'm not familiar with the tune, but does the last bar go like this?
dDcD B,A (3AAA
You can edit the ABC

Got it right now

Right thanks to ceolachan I've edited the ABC so it is right now. I put in D<D<D when it should have been D/D/D. Am new to ABC so I thought < changed notes into 16th notes but it is /. Unfortunately the sheet music notation won't change so you'll just have to take note that the dotted semiquavers and quavers in the last bar of part A and C should not be dotted. Thanks for your suggestion Dafyd but the last bar doesn't go like that. The version I have there now is the definitive Liz Carroll version and seeing as she wrote it I don't think anyone can argue with that. But thanks for your help guys!

You could play the last bar like that as a variation.

suppose you could Liz Carroll plays around with that tune a lot on the album.

D Dorian

Hey guys, feel free to call me a cracker-brained knucklehead, but I reckon almost without a shadow of a doubt that this here tune is in D Dorian; it's all the same notes as C major. Killer tune. I'm thinking of combining it with Pierre's Right Arm. They're both awesome, not quite so traditional sounding tunes, IMO, at least.

word.
just trying to keep things straight!

Certainly the home note is D even though it doesn't begin with D but rather a 'C'. The tune definitely resolves to a 'D'.

When I listen to Liz Carroll play this tune I hear two low "A"s as opposed to "G"s in the first measure.

Will someone wither either validate me or correct me?

"When I listen to Liz Carroll play this tune I hear two low "A"s as opposed to "G"s in the first measure.

That's exactly what I put there! If you're looking at the sheet-music it looks a bit like G's I suppose but they are A's, look at the ABC to confirm it.

Regarding the key of the tune I think it changes between parts, the first part is C Ionian (Major) the second and thirds parts are probably D Dorian alright. Since the Key of the first part is certainly C then that's why I submitted it in C.

If you were going to go into this tune in a session the key you should call out to ensure the backer hits the right first chord would be C!
