"Captain Dunne's March"
I learned this march ages ago, along with a number of others. I'd sometimes ask folks for tunes out of the usual session run of reels and slides, and sometimes it would be marches. I also like the couple dances that go with them, and enjoy dancing to marches. Half of those I've been given are 'gan ainm', with me looking for names and any 'background'. If anyone has more to add to this tune, it would be most welcome.
I love the rhythmic challenge and possibilities with marches. I also feel they are a great way to get developing musicians 'in-the-groove', something too often neglected or lost outside of the context of 'dance'. Sometimes, 'sometimes', that's the cause of an accelerating or fluctuationg-beat bodhran player. But, it can't all be laid at their feet. I've known a few 'strong' fluctuating-rhythm players and just about anyone can throw their weight around in this regards, drawing others into their convoluting rhythm, but there are instruments with that 'power' in built, and that includes the uileann pipes, piano accordions (any accordion / melodeon), and the banjo (the auld string drum ~ no, really, I love it in the right hands. Some of my best friends ~ ). Sometimes one can get downright seasick from the waves of it, like looking at those new weather maps, rhythm vertigo...

To find other marches in the TheSesh database, enter in your search 'march'... Most will have this in their title or as an 'alternate title' and the term is being slowly added to 'marches' in order to facilitate searches...
