The Funny Tailor
A Set Dance not a jig and should be in 3/8 time which cannot be notated here. Apparently tunes in 3/8 were common enough at one time.

Dear C,
I've attached the original notes and manuscript of this tune which comes from P W Joyce's "Ancient Irish Music" 1872, re-edition 1912.
All the best.
Ian
From the book ~ No. 69.
"We have a class of Irish airs, each phrase of which consists of the unusual number of five bars. To this class belong Bunting's air "The Pretty Red Girl", (known in Munster as "Banathee haive"); "The red haired man's wife"; "Drahareen-o-machree", (p. 39 of this book); and many others. Most of them are slow tunes, but a few like the present are quick. Some would perhaps reduce tunes like this to six-eight time, by doubling the length of every fifth bar (which could be done by prolonging the crotchet to the length of five quavers, i.e. dottend crotchet and crotchet); but to do so in the present case would be simply to falsify the tune. The set dance was adapted to it in the waaay in which I give it here.
THE FUNNY TAILOR. A Set dance.
(A dotted crotchet/quarter note) = pend. 10 inches."
Apologies... I've been neglecting things, including mail.
I see you've made some changes in the ABCs. I'd just add some minor changes for clarity of reading, space for example, and you don't need the '/2', as a mere '/' now means just that. Also, as 3/8 it needs the added barring... Here it is with minor changes, following the the jpeg you kindly sent, and set up in 5 bar phrases as that text suggests:
X: 1
T: Funny Tailor, The
M: 3/4
L: 1/8
R: waltz
K: Gmaj
M: 3/8

B2 A | Bgf | efe | d2 B | d2 B/A/ |

You could also give it a 4-bar phrase treatment, similar to what the text alludes to, and fermata, for example, the d2 in measure 15 and the G2 in the final measure:
X: 1
T: Funny Tailor, The
M: 3/4
L: 1/8
R: waltz
K: Gmaj
M: 3/8

d2 B | d2 G | B2 A | Bgf |
efe | d2 B | d3- | d2 B/2A/ |
GED | GAB | GBA | G2 G | G3- | G2 ||
It's a catchy tune... 3/8 tunes tend to be played quite quick.
Thanks for the mail, I've enjoyed giving this time... 'c'
