This is the second of the two Paddy Cronin tunes taught to me at a workshop with June McCormack in the Catskills during the summer of 2004. I posted the first tune yesterday

http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/4591

It occurred to me after posting the tune yesterday that I am not certain of the keys. I have listed both tunes as G major, but am almost positive that the C# in the B part of this tune must throw it into something minor, mix, etc. If anybody can correct me on this, please do so, so I can make the necessary change.

I rather like these tunes, although they don't seem to be super common around my way. Still fun to play regardless.

That's all the info I have on this tune.

Nope, it's just Gmajor =] I don't play chords or whatnot, but I suppose a minor chord would just end up going in that measure if one were to accompany you on this tune.

I really like this jig! Has a nice flow. Gah, lovely!!!

Cheers,
Armand

Kinda funny. Found myself at a few sessions with Paddy this past summer and took the opportunity to play this tune at one of the sessions figuring that he would know it. Wrong. Either that or he just chose not to play it. Either way I was rather amused.

Paddy Cronin's

Hi, the name of this tune is actually "The Half Gate". I'm 100% sure of this as I composed it! I think it came into being at the end of the 80's or beginning of the 90's. I was a member of the Siamsa Céilí Band from Dundalk, Ireland, and we played it at the All-Ireland céilí band competition in the early 90's, which is probably where it was first heard. It was christened "The Half Gate" in 2004 when it became the title track of a CD that I recorded with Iontach, a trio of which I am still a member. The version here is slightly different to the original...

"The Half Gate" ~ C: Siobhán Kennedy

It's that good it's down here twice... Hopefully we can get the title corrected... For now it is in the 'alternate titles' section and each of the original contributors will get an email asking for them to make the correction. If that fails we can ask the webmaster Jeremy to make the correction...

I take it you don't mind it being on the database? I'd love to see your take on it transcribed, to see the differences. Maybe I can chase up the recording. Thanks for the tale behind the tune...

All fixed

Got your emails today ceolachan. Thanks for the heads up. Siobhan, thanks for finding the tune on here and giving a proper name to it (and back story). As "ceol" mentioned, hopefully you don't mind it being here (I wouldn't be offended if you want it removed/altered/etc.). I had just assumed it was traditional with no composer attached and was in the public domain.
