Jimmy Kennedy's (jig)

Another gem from Maeve Donnelly and Peadar O'Loughlin's duet album. It seems named after a West Clare flute player. It's a bit tricky but definitely worth learning. I think it would sound best on pipes. It might be originally a song melody.

Not the way Peadar and Maeve play it.

This is indeed a lovely jig. Thanks for doing the transcribing. But what you have is different in several places from the way it's played on The Thing Itself. This isn't just a different version. It seems as if certain notes have been omitted and others added. The second part especially is different. One more reason NOT to learn a tune from the dots, but rather by ear.

Yeah, this transcription might be different from what you hear on the recording. But how boring and unimaginative to write down everything as the two master players recorded! They actually play the tune differently each time, and in the future they'd never play it exactly the same way as they did on the recording.

And of course, Ms Donnelly and Mr O'Loughlin don't play the tune in the same way either. I'll appreciate if you put your own interpretation of the tune here in the comments, "cocosflute."

Posting different versions

cocusflute, you seem to be implying that there's only one correct version of this tune. One of the frustrating things about ITM tunes is that the many different versions that exist. It's also one of the best things, but my point is that you are free and highly encouraged to post other versions here in the comments sections. This would be far more useful than criticizing the version that was first posted... don't you think?
