Bonnie Anne (reel)

This is a cute Fermanagh tune learned from Harry Bradley and Paul O'Shaughnessy's flute duet playing. I also referred to Hammy Hamilton's solo playing: http://homepage.tinet.ie/~hammie/Hoy.mp3 (the second tune in the set)

It was originally from the repertoire of flute players such as Eddie Duffy and Gary Hastings, but I personally prefer playing it on whistle after an Edor tune which mostly stays in the lower octave, such as Drunken Landlady and Colonel McBain.

The first part is very neat and just OK, but what makes the tune attractive is, of course, the somewhat unusual use of #C in the second part. I don't like that bit at first, but it really works and now I'm in love with it.

The first part is a bit similar to that of Doonagore: http://thesession.org/tunes/display.php/2816 But no #c in the second part!

Nice to see this old tune show up. One of the first tunes I ever learned on the flute back in the late 70s. It was then one of a whole new repertoire which younger northern musicians were acquiring from Fermanagh musicians, especially the late Eddie Duffy, the late Mick Hoy and, of course, the one and only Cathal McConnell.

Boney Anne

A powerful breath- taking version of this old tune can be found on Niall Keegan's CD "Don't touch the Elk". the other tunes on this CD are also worth to listen. Niall is a genious fluteplayer with an own unconventional style.

Bonnie Anne (Fermanagh Reel)

I finally got the Hidden Fermanagh book with 2 fantastic CD's this morning. Browsing through the book, I found this tune as "Untitled Reel" on page 92. I've been thinking this is one of the most famous Fermanagh tunes recorded by some Belfast flute players, but perhaps it's not very well-known in its home county. "Another usual tune from the playing of Eddie Duffy." That's all the book says.

Correction

"Another *unusual* tune from the playing of Eddie Duffy." That's all the book says.
