Cul a dun

Maybe I'm violating some kind of a rule here: This is a tune I have never played in a session. I just kind of like it. It's from a CD called Celtic Christmas, one of those Windham Hill things produced by Micheal O'Domhnaill.
I suspect this tune comes off as a dull arpeggio etude if played on fiddle or flute. But as recorded on harp by Laoise Kelly, backed by Steve Cooney, it's quite nice.
It works OK on solo guitar, too.

Cul A Dun

There's supposed to be accent marks over each vowel. Does anyone know what the title means?

Cul a dun

Try it in DADGAD, with a capo at the 5th fret:

Hey Paul - Dun is fort, and cul means back or rear, so maybe the Back of the Fort? But my opinion is wrong and stupid. :o)

# Posted on March 5th 2005 by Will CPT

Then why are you offering it, you stupid, stupid man?
Maybe "behind the fort?" Doesn't sound like it belongs on a Christmas compilation, does it?
Oh, and I forgot to state the obvious: This tune was written by Steve Cooney.

# Posted on March 5th 2005 by cuchulain54

Will, you realize I'm kidding, right?

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by cuchulain54

Lol, yeah Paul, I'm not *that* stupid. :o)

So is "Behind the Fort" analogous to, say, "Deep in the Hold," or "In the Aft Cabin," or "Up Against the Futtock"? ;o)

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by Will CPT

But I'm glad you worried about it, Paul. *smirk*

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by Zina Lee

Heh, I'm glad he worried about it for two whole nights, no doubt losing sleep and fearing for his very membership at the yella site. :o) Of course, now I can milk this for every drop of contrition. *evil grin*

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by Will CPT

Hello? Is this the same Paul we're talking about here? hehehe

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by Zina Lee

Oh, I'm just giving him a hard time. In return. :o)

# Posted on March 7th 2005 by Will CPT

He's never had to deal with that, I'm sure, she said, dryly.

# Posted on March 8th 2005 by Zina Lee

What's that Zina, you're a tad dry are you? A bit dehydrated after the "grand" weekend, is that it? Or are you just implying that I sometimes give people a hard time? Or have you just been reading too much Victorian fiction lately? he inquired with unbridled restraint.

# Posted on March 8th 2005 by Will CPT

"unbridled restraint"! hehehe...nice one...

I was going to make a dirty joke, but remembered that this was a family site in time. I'm sure you can figure out what it was anyway, Harmon.

# Posted on March 8th 2005 by Zina Lee

I'll just let my imagination run wild.... ;o)

# Posted on March 8th 2005 by Will CPT

Should I be concerned that all the Victorian-style flirting is taking place on MY posting? I mean, I don't want to be named as an accessory.

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by cuchulain54

I hereby name you...Handbag. Or maybe, Party Hat.

I never flirt with Will. Rose is too good with that pulaski. ;)

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by Zina Lee

"Accessory"?!?! Hey, you're the one posting tunes with suggestive, lurid titles....

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by Will CPT

Lol at Party Hat. But I think Paul is more of a Nipple Ring kind of guy. Or Tongue Stud. Yeah, that's it.

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by Will CPT

Oooo, Tongue Stud. That's a good one.

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by Zina Lee

If you ever met me, you'd find I'm every kind of stud imagineable.

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by cuchulain54

Yeah, well, you've no idea about *my* imagination... *smirk*

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by Zina Lee

No, I can't imagine...
We should let your already-wild imagination run wild with my fictional studly self-image. Imagine the fun they'd have, whilst we sit home and behave ourselves.

# Posted on March 10th 2005 by cuchulain54

I always behave myself. Usually rather badly, but it's still all behaving, right?
