A knuckle buster

I've been dying to learn this tune for a long time. So when the dots for it fell into my lap yesterday, by way of Jessie Gagne-Hall of Portland, ME, I could't help but sharing.

This stunning tune is another of Keith Murphy's compositions and can be found on Nightingale's 2nd CD "Sometime When the Moon is High." They play it slowly but with a deliberateness that feels like it could take off at any second.

A note about the "*S*" symbol: What is written as the bar of the tune is actually what you play as the bar of the A part when coming out of the 2nd ending. Then go to the "*S*" and play on through. That way the melody just flutters down in a totally seamless way. Enjoy!

As a flute player I have more luck with this tune in Em (or at least on a C whistle played in Em). Here are the Em ABC's

Correction

something got screwed up when put an important part of my comment in brackets . . . so here goes again:

A note about the "*S*" symbol: What is written as the LAST bar of the tune is actually what you play as the FIRST bar of the A part when coming out of the 2nd ending. The go to the "*S*" and play on through. That way the melody just flutters down ina totally seamless way. Enjoy!

This tune can be found with lots of other great tunes in Keith Murphy's tunebook that came out a few years ago, Black Isle Music. Also, Nightingale has a new web page as of a few weeks ago, www.nightingalevt.org. Check out the tunebook for some really unique and cool chords for this tune.
