The Trip To London

This tune appears twice on my Brid Harper recording, once backed by guitar and once with piano. It may be someone different because it's a slightly different setting altho' the style is similar, but the recording quality isn't very good so it's difficult to tell. The actual setting played by Harper/Byrne has more accidentals in and is as follows:

X: 1
T: Trip To London, The
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Gmaj
DEFD GFDC|B,G,B,C DE=FD|~G3B dBcA|GFDE =FDCF|

gBdg GBdg|bgag e^def|gd~d2 ^cdBG|1 FGAF G2Bd:|2 FGAF G3F||

In the other version on the recording the 1st time through goes as follows:

X: 1
T: Trip To London, The
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Gmaj
DEFD GFDC|B,G,B,C DEFD|~G3B dBGB|A=FDE FDCF|
DEFD GFDC|B,G,B,C DEFD|~G3B AGFA|1 DGGF ~G3F:|2 DGGF G2Bd||
|:gBdB GBdg|bgag egfa|gBBA (3BcB AB|GBdB ABcd|
gB~B2 GBdg|bgag egfa|gd~d2 ^cdBG|1 FGAF GABd:|2 FGAF G3F||

Then it's varied a lot the next time thru - an especially nice one being a roll on the low B, 2nd bar:

So the whole point was that my setting's a combination of the two.

Tony O'Connell & Andy Morrow

In the liner notes of their album, it says that this is a composition of Kerry box player Tom Fleming entitled "The Heights Of Muingbhathá" - Muingbhathá apparently being a townland in north Kerry in the region of Knocknagosel.

Muingvuara

"cos" posted Tom Fleming's recording which I used to have but seem to have lost. The title on the sleeve was spelt "The Heights of Muingvuara" - I've added that as an alternative title, and the link to the recording now works. A good tune.
