Reaper of Glenree
Set Dance, not hornpipe!
Learnt from #82 Vol2 of the book from Dulmer/Sharpley 'Music of Ireland' .
The source is given as a certain John Doonan (Piccolo)
I've altered the tune a little bit so it fits to whistle or pipes.
The second part is 20 bars long and the tune does not sound like old irish tradition, maybe it is from somewhere else in the British Isles. We used to play it in a hornpipe tempo and lilt.

I haven't found it anywhere else, are there any recordings?
Is there a more popular title for this lovely tune?

John Doonan made a recording a good few years called "Flute for the Feis". As far as I remember, the recording featured mostly tunes (may have been exclusively set dances) he played at feiseanna for the dance competitions. So maybe that's why you don't hear the tune much.

John Doonan
I'll post "Flute For The Feis" later today. Mostly set-dances - but not this one - plus a few hornpipes, slip-jigs and only 1 or 2 sets of reels. Don't have another title for this tune, in fact I don't think I've ever heard it played. John Doonan did make 1 or possibly 2 other recordings. It may be on one of them.

The Reaper
This is a hornpipe setdance and is not actually traditional but was composed by Patricia Mulholland, a prolific dance teacher, choreographer and fiddler.
