La Luna

Yes I know its not a barndance.... but it is in 4/4 time and they don't support schottische's on here

Barndance = Schottische

Same species...

Only one problem - the species, especially the 'Schottische', is skipped, meaning '>'...

What's the story on this one? It rings as a recent composition. Do you know a source, where you got it from or who composed it? I like the 'form' but am not familiar with this particular tune, not with any Celtic associations, or Euro. The Aussies are Schottische mad and there were a load of them circulating around in the 1800s, including some outrageous arrangements... Tell us more when you get a chance.

Despite the lingua, this has an 'Anglais nouveau' quirkiness about it...

Schottishe with or without the dots

Agree with ceolachan that it has an English flavour and would like to know more about background. have played it with and without dottedness and it lends itself more to the latter where it can fall into the Polka catagory but NOT Irish.

Sans points - - -

Yes, I can see the 'Polka Anglais ou Schottische' about it, or in other words, a la the magnificent Bob Cann or that maestro Jimmy Shand... I've written 'pizak' twice, and finally read his little bio - 'Anglais' and of the 'folk club' variety...

Tune not Anglais but I am

Ok I admit it.... I did pick this up at a folk club. A friend gave me the music and since I hadn't found it online, I typed it in and put it here. Ceolachan.... thanks for the note... it didn't occur to me that anyone would have even looked at it!

I tend more to Irish, but this tune is catchy and has a nice rhythm.

I don't know anything about it... but now I look back at the sheet music I was given I notice it was written by Pierre-Marie Blaja.... so not Anglais at all! From a quick Google search it seems Pierre Marie is a guitarist and accordeon player from Albi.

In fact, now I have the name, I have found the tune elsewhere:
