Question - how did you play it, assuming you did it in one of three standard ways to play 7/8 tunes:
3-2-2 / 2-3-2 / 2-2-3?
It seems to fit the latter, one of the more common breakdowns of the form:
M:7/8
|:EB Bc ecA|F2 DFG AB|EB Bc A2B|1 AF FA B2G:|2 AF FA B2A||
|:B2 ef gag|f2e fB BA|B2e fg af|1 ecA GA Bc:|2ecA BA GF||
???

To be perfectly honest I don't know!I play it more like |:EBBc ecA|F2D FGAB|.Half Jig,half reel type of thing.1234 123 and 123 1234 emphasising the 1!I'll try it your way it sounds interesting.I was not aware there was a standard way of playing a 7/8!!Cheers

Yeah, it isn't bad. I did try to see if it would fit a larger count, such as 14/8, but it isn't consistent as you've given it in the notes. Basically the natural move for mixed meters is to roughly find a long and a short pulse, or in a basic kind or way, 3 count and 2 count foot tapping, so a 2-2-3 pulse would be short-short-long. You can combine these long and short pulses up to some large numbers - such as 21/16. But, there are some that vary that pulse around, so while my dancing inclination is to want some kind of repeating phrase in the bar, there's nothing wrong with it being in 2s and 3s along the lines you envision it. But, personally, I like it better more danceable...Hopa!

Check out 'barndances' - a number of mixed meter tunes from the Balkans and Balkan inspired have found a home there. Just to to the 'Search' tab, click on it, and then select 'Barndance' from the drop down menu and leave 'all keys' as is and the title bar empty, click. But, hey, here they are, the mixed meters, links and all:

Maybe next time you'll know better than to start a fight with the publican by giving her a Guiness shower...
