Dublin Reel

Nice and energetic (man, I just don't know what to write about these tunes!).

If you link here from the Ireland's Harvest Recording

Beware ...

"The Dublin" on this CD is not the tune here, which is the Dublin Reel. Instead it's The Dublin Hornpipe.

But learn the Dublin Reel anyway. It's a superb tune!

The Dubin Reel

Attributed to Walter Jackson, this tune appears as Jackson's on Peter Horan and Gerry Harrington's new recording. Not sure if it's true.

So, the G major setting is called The Westmeath Hunt: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/2269 Peter Horan recorded both D and G settings together.

And here's another setting of the tune from Co. Fermanagh: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1670

The version we play of Jim McCormick's has 5 parts. I'll try and put up the abc here later on.

Dublin reel

i play this reel as a four part with the 1st, 2nd, and 4th being in the key of "G" and the 3rd being in "D". the second part is pretty much the 1st part in a lower octave with a few slight differences

Some confusion.... different settings and keys

This is one of the classic piping tunes. The 3-part version that Liam O'Flynn plays in the key of D, on Cold Blow and the Rainy Night, is the most common version and is played this way in our sessions in Co Clare. It is probably the most widely accepted "correct" version. The official posted version on thesession.org misses the nuances of different endings in the three parts and so is best ignored. gian marcos abc version, posted above, is much more accurate, as is the one posted by JACKB. If you play from ABCs then either is fine as is. Otherwise take it to the tune transcriber part of this site (http://www.concertin...es_convert.html) and remember to put in the "X:1" before you ask the transcription to be accomplished. There are some slight differences between these versions and the way Liam O plays the tune but they're not worth worrying about.
There is a version in the key of G that is played by The Kilfenora Ceili Band as the first track on their classic album, Irish Traditional Fiddle Music (sometimes labeled Jigs and Reels). The medley of these three tunes -- Connemara Stockings, Dublin Reel, Tear the Calico -- is as famous as any medley ever played by Michael Coleman - or by anybody, for that matter. The G version of the Dublin Reel isn't commonly played outside of this medley. At least not in my experience.

Key in ABC from gian marco?

Shouldn't this be in D, with "K:D" in the ABC?
