Dennis Cooney's

I just learned this dark little jig thanks to Susan in Chicago, who has it from fiddler Brid Dunne, who in turn apparently learned it from the playing of Kevin Carey. Beyond that, I don't know much about it except that I like it tons.

There are too few Dm tunes in the tradition, and that low B in the 4th bar, A part, strikes my ear as an accidental, not the norm, although it *is* the only B, natural or flat, in the whole piece (so you could notate it in D dorian). But that discounts the pattern of accidentals in this tune--a surprisingly smooth-sounding jig given the abundance of F nats and sharps and C nats and sharps. And I love the low growly stuff.

Growly

Is a good word for it Will - You should hear it on a Viola or C tuned Mandola. Nice, dark tune whatever key it's actually in.
