Callaghan's/the Doon

This is "Callaghan's / The Doon" as posted by Dow, but in an anti-social key [ for flute players, anyway ].

# Posted on October 18th 2004 by Kenny

Hmm, the B-part's a bit different though isn't it?

# Posted on October 18th 2004 by Dow

I think this is the one Kathleen Collins recorded(in D) as Private Ass and Cart, which was said in the sleeve notes to be a version of Callaghans.

Hey, not quite, it was this that made me look:

"Just found another one. But: hornpipe?!" ~ but you are the source. Now to check this out... ;-)

"Private Ass & Cart" ~ stepping down

It was only E Major because, I suspect, it was probably old tuning...

It's your notes, just transposed and me adding a lead-in and stacking them for bar comparison... While we're at it, I'll have a Long Island Ice Tea... :-)

I quite like it in E as posted in the original submission. Wonder what the source was...

Not a great key for flutes but nice for the EC - have you tried it on EC, 'c'?

I think I'm going to play it in E. My reason being that the Doon/Callaghan's is sometimes played in sessions I go to, and it most often appears in D, as opposed to G which is how I posted it. If I were to start Kitty Sheain's in D, it's likely everyone would just go ahead and play that B-part. In E, it's more likely that the fiddlers would pick it up as a new tune.

# Posted on March 26th 2007 by Dow

by "that B-part" I meant "the B-part for the Doon/Callaghan's". It made sense at time of writing...

# Posted on March 26th 2007 by Dow

I just did a quick google search, and it looks like the source for the original posting was probably Altan's Runaway Sunday. I don't have that album myself so I can't confirm this. I dearly wish people would state their source(s) after posting a tune. It's not much to ask, really. I wouldn't necessarily expect anyone to do that in a session of course, since session playing is a one off spontaneous event, but posting abc on an internet database intended to be a reference for international users is kind of different.

What B-part are you on about? I will, of course, do as you suggest... My eyes are glazing over ~ nope ~ they were already glazed over... "Master!"

# Posted on March 26th 2007 by ceolachan

I was on about the one you yourself posted a link to.
