Second of Sean Ryan's three waltzes
I don't know whether Sean Ryan wrote them or if they're "traditional". I've never seen them anywhere else besides his recording.

A Finnish Waltz
This is a Finnish waltz, and in English it is usually called "Life in the Finland Woods", or sometimes "Scenes from the Finland Woods." There is a third part as well. The original key is C, I believe.

This is a song close to my heart
My great grandfather played this song all the time. He played it at my parent's wedding for the first dance (I obviously wasn't there) and my father played it at my brother's wedding for their first dance. I know it slightly differently (still in D), I'll put it up here when I get around to transcribing it.

A lot of the kids I knew at school went to their parents weddings, but then I would think the culture is rather different where I was brought up!

Sounds like the song
The second part sounds like ''Mocking Bird Hill''

Livet i Finnskorgarna - gan Carl Jularbo
- also in a version known as "Mocking Bird Hill" and recorded by Mother Maybelle Carter and the likes of Hank Snow...

& aside from a strong 'old time' showing, it is very popular in Minnesota and with Czech polka bands...

This one and its variants have travelled so much that it is played in half a dozen different keys. I'll return later with a different full transcription of the three parts - if I can remember it or find my transcriptions for it...

Yes, there's a key change from the first two parts in 'D' to the third part in 'G'...

This waltz is also played down a fifth in the keys of G & C. Some notations also show it as repeating again: AAAABBBBCCCC, or 96 bars in total, the second endings coming into play in the fourth repeat of each part. I've simplified this notation to show the shared rhythms and bars, especially between the first two parts, A & B. Some folks put a bit of that mazurka swing(skip) into playing it.
And another way with this, with a few 'gummy bits' stuck in:

How Sean got this tune
A friend of mine, fiddle player, gave this tune to Sean. We meet him during a holliday in France 25 years ago. We were busking and so was Sean. It is a swedish tune called Livet i finskogana.
Found on Google:
Livet i finnskogarna - The late, great Swedish accordionist Carl Jularbo wrote Livet i finnskogarna about life in the woods of Finland.

"The Fiddler's Companion" ~ Andrew Kuntz
"The title ~ "Livet i Finnskogarna" ~ is Swedish and refers to that part of the woods of Sweden where a Finnish population settled. The melody, with lyrics appears in a 1938 Swedish tune book entitled Jularbos Basta, published in Malmo, Sweden, and is a composition by Swedish accordion virtuoso Carl Jularbo (1893-1966). It was recorded in 1915 and was a quite popular piece of music of its era, which accounts for its wide dissemination outside of Sweden. Tom Paley thinks another Swedish 3-part tune, "Moeckelmyrvalsen,” was a source tune (a vesion by Jon-Erik Oest is structured AABBACC). Pattie Page used the first two parts of the three-part melody in the 1950's for her hit "Mocking Bird Hill."

Does anyone know or have a recording of the 3-part tune some believe this has evolved from ~ "Moeckelmyrvalsen”? I'd love to hear or see it and give it a try and compare it...
The above key is as some ceili bands perform it, also the rhythm, a little more straight, so to speak. Matt Cunningham and his band perform this one as a standard. I'll try to get one of those recordings placed here for a link...

Livet i Finnskorgarna / Life in the Finnish Woods ~ correction
There was a slight problem with measure counts for second endings in one of the earlier ways given above, here it is with corrections and a bit more space to better facilitate reading the ABC's:
K: D Major
|: G FE |
D3 F Ad | f3 d AF | G3 B dg | b4 _b2 | a3 g ec |1 A3 c eg | f3 d AF | D3 :|
2 A3 g ec | f3 e dc | d3 ||

2 A3 g ec | f3 e dc | d3 ||
K: G Major

B3 _B =B2 | B2 (3ABA G2 | F3 D Fd | c3 D FA | d3 D dD | (3cdc B2 A2 |1 G3 D Ge | d3 :|
2 G3 F GA | G3 ||
It goes particularly well with a swing, as for mazurkas...

Livet i Finnskogarna alternative version
The opinion among swedish musicologist is devided - most lean towards the opinion that Carl Jularbo didn´t actually compose the waltz "Livet i Finnskogarna", though he probably compose the third part himself. Here is an alternative version. I don´t claim that it is the standard version in any way - it´s just how I play it! Great tune on any instrument.
