Andy McGann`s Reel
I am submitting this as we appear to only have one of Andy`s reels in the Database and some of Andy`s tunes were asked for earlier as a little tribute.I hope this isn`t already there under some spurious name.A great tune which I presume Andy composed.

Single?
Isn't this usually played as a single? I've only heard it that way, and it's often paired with The Humours of Scariff.

I think you are right Jack!
I must be slipping-I turned fifty 3 days ago!
Yes I love this tune with the Humours of Scariff-McGann,McGuire and Burke have all recorded that pairing and recently Sean told me that Paddy Fahey composed the Humours of Scariff.

Thank you Zina !
I must admit to being in awe of any woman who has made 6605 comments on this web-site!When do you get time for a few tunes!
# Posted on July 14th 2004 by cos
Heh, Zina's a very old soul. She posted many of those comments during a previous life.... *snort*

LOL -- ignore Will, cos, but don't bother being in awe of me, the however-many-comments certainly aren't all worth reading! He's just jealous of my extremely fast typing skills. (The "old soul" thing is a bit of a private joke, sorry.) In fact, I think I'll go play some tunes right now. I've been working on Jenny's Welcome to Charlie, The Girl Who Broke My Heart, and Exile of Erin, and need to get back to them.

This is a different Andy McGann's
This fine tune here is not the one which appears under this name on the Angelina Carberry and Martin Quinn CD. I will post these ABCs today.

I just heard this tune played on Clare fm. I didn't catch who was playing, but they repeated the parts.

Hugh and Colm Healey from Clare call this tune "Tommy People's" on their cd Macalla na hÓige. I've always known it as Andy McGann's though.

Andy McGann's -It's a Hard Road- Track 2
Just noticed that this tune is not the one on the album. It is the second, also called Andy McGann's No.42 or the Bunratty Reel.

Claire Mann also recorded this reel on her solo album.

Am i right in thinking that this is *not* the first tune of track 9 on mcgoldrick's morning rory? despite the listing under tunes..? even apart from the differnet key...

Andy McGann's - more than 1 tune
Read the "comments" to "Morning Rory".

Composer credits
Andy did not compose this tune but got it from Lad O'Beirne, whose source is unkown. Andy did adopt it as one of his pet tunes, however, playing so often and so well that it became "his" tune in name. "The Humours of Scariff," by the way, was collected by Francis O'Neill in east Clare and published in his Dance Music of Ireland, so I don't think we can credit it to Paddy Fahey!

No. 42 Bunratty
There is some confusion here in the name "Andy McGann's No. 42 Bunratty Reel." That was a joke title on Andy's Shanachie LP for the reel usually called "Drag Her Round the Road," which is a completely different tune than this "Andy McGann's Reel."
