The Controversial

One of many great compositions by button-accordion player Billy McComiskie. There are several versions with minor variations of this tune going round. This was transcribed by Ged Palmer, a fine fiddle-player who lived for a while in Aberdeen. I think this particular transcription came from a recording of the tune made by the fiddle-playing brothers Seamus and Manus McGuire .

~ As Turlach Boylan plays it on "The Tidy Cottage". It's notated as how he plays each part the first time through, but of course he goes on to add nice variation with the repeats. It's a bit different from Dervish's recording. Boylan plays it with a nice lilt. A great tune, no matter who plays it or how.
