The Road to Frustration

Another "plateau" inspired tune. The whole point of the A Part is to set a stage for Part B, kind of like learning to hold a bow and find notes on a fretless fingerboard, only to realize you still can't play MUSIC....

I wrote this jig also in memory of an outdoor gig in Missoula, Montana several years ago. A powerful wind and rain storm hit the stage at the same time our little band did. The stage crew--a gang of hefty boys--had to cling to the scaffolding in back to keep us from toppling over, and the wind noise on our mics drowned out any music we might have accidentally played. The temperature dropped about 30 degrees in the first 10 minutes, and then it began to spit. After 40 minutes, our audience consisted of one, and when he too got up to leave he slipped and fell on the plywood dance floor set up in front of the stage. Guiness may have been a contributing factor....

So the gig was in the street in front of Sean Kelly's Pub, and this jig will sometimes also be referred to as "Sean Kelly's" (might as well get a head start on applying multiple names....)

Ooops!

Jeremy, you're so quick! But I goofed, and just corrected the abc's. 2nd measure of Part A should be |ABc B2 G| with a B as the 2nd note, not a G as I orignally typed. Sorry sorry sorry. I'm working with two mangles fingers today and didn't bend enough to hit the right key.
Mea culpa.

Oh god, what frustration! Of course the low C in the 1st measure of the 2nd ending to Part A should be "c" not "C." Again, I've corrected the abcs. How appropriate to put one's ineptitude fully on display, given the train of thought that led us here....
I would do penance, but I'd probably screw that up too :-)

Oh GOSH...Will, you have GOT to record these with some of your cohorts and we'll put it on The Session Recordings...

Kicking in the Mire. heh.

Oh Gosh?

Zina, does this mean you like it?

I've had a hard time getting the locals to play this one and finally gave up. Maybe it was too melodramatic for them. I still play it (a composer should take care of his/her own children, eh?), but I don't break it out at the session anymore.

So who's gonna write the Unfortunate Hack or the Humours of Failure?
