Across The Rooftops

By Deirdre Moynihan of "Calico", from their album "Songdogs". Thanks for the tune Beebs...

It's Diarmaid Moynihan, I think. I've got their first and love it, but not the second one yet. Diarmaid is definitely a great composer.

It's not - I checked on the album sleeve.

Sorry, it seems Diarmaid's sister. http://www.tradcds.com/artists/interviews/diarmaidmoynihan.html

Yeah, she's a great composer too - credit where it's due eh?

Thanks for posting Dow - now I never need to learn to read music - I'll just teach the tunes I love and you can post them for me:) Ive only heard this tune written by Deirdre- but if they are all half this good then they must be brilliant - I love this tune!

Cheers for posting this Dow, it's when a tune like this gets posted, 12 hours after asking about it, that one can see the shear brilliance of this website! Yeh, its the whole Moynihan family - Deirdre, Donncha and Diarmaid in Calico, but I had no idea of that when I was playing music every week with them in Cork last summer! Deirdre has a great smooth and flowing fiddle style, with plenty of passing notes, rather than leaving long notes or including any staccato, which brings across a beautiful long melodic line. I don't know, but maybe she gets this from the fact that she is also apparently a very good soprano who sings solo and in a choir I think in Dublin. Whatever, the case, cheers for posting the tune. I'm gonnae dig out my tapes I recorded of those sessions and see if any of the family played any of their own tunes!!
