The High Hill
This is an Ed Reavy composition, set here on the playing of fiddler Jim Egan and piper Elliot Grasso, both from Baltimore, Maryland. They've tweaked the tune a bit (for example, adding those G sharps in the B part), and I like this version better than the 'original' I've seen from the Reavy collection.
Egan and Grasso do this in a set of Reavy tunes, going next into Brefni O'Reilly and then finishing with Ann from Monaghan.
With all the c nats, The High Hill might as well be in D mixolydian, but to my ear the c sharps set the mode and the c nats come as a welcome surprise--a D major tune that wanders for long stretches in D mix, then.
