I Wish I Never Saw You

Alternative title is "My Love And I In The Garden", which doesn't really agree with its other title. Recorded by Mary Bergin on her 1st solo CD.

Kenny, I notice that Le Cheile call this tune 'The Doorin Blacksmith' on their 'Aris' LP.

Perhaps the title of that LP was a cockney rhymin slang tribute to that other great Irishman - Richard Harris? :-)

Old Mossy Banks

Also known by that title. The first bar would suggest it too!

I put in the Scotch Mary title a while back as that was the name on Frankie Gavin's album but I have since come to believe that this is just a mistake on Frankie's behalf and not a common used title for this tune. Would be interested to know a little more on this one though as there is a good deal of titles and I'm always one for the researching end of thing......(yes, I'm fired up now and it's past my bed-time).

Micho Russell called the tune "Diwide (I.e., Divide) the Callie Fairly." As I understand it, Callie was something the miners used to drink in the mines.

Callie / Cally / Champ / Pandy / Poundies / Stampy ~

Potatoes (floury)
chopped scallions (spring onions)
milk (Jersey!)
butter (Jersey!)
salt and pepper
fresh herbs if you like, & we do ~ parsley, thyme, sage, chives ~ all growing just outside our door...
Oh yes, musn't forget, when in season, now, ~ ramsons, wild garlic leaves and flowers...

This is a favourite dish, and we particularly love it with mackerel, even more so if fresh caught off any shore bordering Eire... Here's the sin for some, I love to drizzle the fish oil, mackerel is an oily fish, over the tatties, mmmm, fish oil and a nice creamery butter...

Keith Floyd's take on this is with spring onions and chives. He simmers the scallions/spring onions in the milk until soft. As usual, he boils the potatoes in salted water and then mashes them, adding the onions, milk and chives and then seasoning to taste with salt and pepper. The then puts a pad of butter on top and lets it melt. Some make a well in the mash and then put in the butter... Damn, now I'm hankerin' for some mackerel and mash... :-)
