bb...
You may be intersted to know that Josephine brought out a book of her tunes last year, accompanied by a 2-CD recording featuring herself (of course, no show without Punch!) and many of the musicians she now plays with regularly in Mullaghbawn and Camlough and the like.

I've posted links to disc one here http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display.php/532

and to disc two here http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display.php/533

I'll rifle through the book and see which name Josephine herself gives to this tune.

Gates of Mullagh

I first heard this wonderful tune on a cassette tape of a gig by fiddler Brid Harper. She called it "Gates of Mullagh" and attibuted authorship to Josephine Keegan.

Josephine Keegan tune

Apparently this tune is not the "Gates of Mullagh." I saw an online ad for Josephine Keegan's book "The Keegan Tunes" and included on the site were transcriptions of three tunes from the book, one of which was Gates of Mullagh.

The correct title is ...

Ronnie Cooper ... 3rd tune in 2002's Ceol Camloch publication "The Keegan Tunes".

She is a real talent for tunes, her stuff is inspiring!

Keegan's tunes

I've posted another of Josephine's tunes recently Glassdrummond - a march, http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1422

Just wondering ...

How can we get the "other name" Gates of Mullagh struck from the record for this tune, since the "real" Gates of Mullagh has now been posted?

Aliases

The person who submits a tune can edit the details at any time.

However, this tune is referred to (albeit erronously) as The Gates Of Mullagh on at least one recording so I think the alias should stay. Someone who has heard that recording and is looking for this tune might well search for "The Gates Of Mullagh" and it would be a good thing if the search brought back first The (real) Gates Of Mullagh and secondly this tune (with the title Josephine Keegan's in parenthises).

Try searching for The Gates Of Mullagh and you'll see what I mean.

"Ronnie Cooper" ~ by Josephine Keegan ~ Comhaltas

"Josephine Keegan has composed a powerful reel , named Ronnie Cooper, in honor of the great man. It is currently being profiled as tune of the week over in the comhaltas site, complete with video of musicians playing it, plus the notation."

Thanks for the heads up Tommy ~

Two reels composed by Josephine Keegan played by Clare musicians Michael O’Rourke, All-Ireland senor fiddle champion in 2004, and button accordionist Larry Gavin. Piano accompaniment is by Deirdre McSherry from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. The tunes are “The Gates of Mullagh” and “Ronnie Cooper’s””, which is this week’s tutorial.
