Mealagh Valley Polka No.2
Here it is, number 2. A mightier tune than number 1, and needs a bit of pace.

Blaskets again
This is another tune utilised in the Oileain production by Siamsa Tire, played in the right spirit it really gets across the wildness of anything west of Tralee!

Yes, I can imagine it being used by 'Siamsa Tire', however, and not professing a complete collection or awareness, these two tunes do not show in any of the material I have from the Blaskets, or in collection, such as the West Kerry specific collection “An Pota Stóir” - Feargal Mac Amhlaoibh... But as mentioned in #1, The Mealagh Valley is West Clare. My suspicion is that this pair probably originates from Bantry, but I'd love to know more, and would love to be better informed about both with regards to sources and history...

Slip of the mind ~ WEST CORK, not Clare...

Up from Bantry, the Bay and the town... parallel with the Borlin Valley, both places with their own 'sets' that use polkas... On the other side of the Mealagh is The Dunmanway Set... In all a lovely part of the world...physical and cultural geography, great folks and the best librarians for miles around...missed...
