Gan Ainm

This is (roughly) the unknown reel on the eponymous Solas album.

Chicago Jig

I think this is Chicago jig. It appears as a nameless tune on Dervish's "At the End of the Day" album, and also Seamus Egan previously recorded it on his "The Traditional Music of Ireland." It seems he picked it up from Liz Carroll.

Chicago jig

Yes, I have now seen this as the Chicago jig, though Dusty Windowsills/Austin Barratts also comes under this name.

Chicago Jig

My version is close to the one on Dervish's "At The End Of The Day":

3rd part - courtesy of "Ptarmigan"

"Ptarmigan" sent me a tape some years ago of recordings from an RTE traditional music programme. This tune was played by Nigel and Diana Boullier, 2 great musicians from Co.Down, with a third part, as follows:

dgg gag | fdc ABc | B2 G GAG | F2 D D3 |
dgg gag | fdc ABc | BdB cAF |1GAG GAB |2 GAG GAG |

I believe that it was Nigel who added on the 3rd part, but can't for the life of me think where I heard that from.
I played this to "Ptarmigan" some weeks back at the "Mull Of Kintyre" festival, and surprise, surprise - he said he'd never heard it before . I think it rounds the tune off very nicely. Any opinions ?

P.S.

I think the 3rd part was Diana's - not Nigel's.

Rescued duplication

Posted as "Gan Ainm", 4/12/2007. The transcription is a bit weird in bars 4 & 8 of A-part, but I haven't got the album myself, so can't check it.

Played by Solas on "Solas" track #10

Link from the recording list

Is there a way to add the link from "Gan Ainm" on Solas' self title album from the recordings list to this tune? I was having trouble finding it and as it wasn't linked from there. So I tried the transcription as best I could, then got a message from Jeremy it'd been moved here. (And after figuring out ABC format to submit a tune, I was anxiously waiting to see what it'd look like in dots :P)

Also, any corrections on the "weird bar" #4 (thanks Dow) in the A section would be appreciated. Solas does a strange rhythmic pattern-breaking the measure into what feels (to me at least) like a 3/4 time, at least the way it is accented. But not sure the notes are correct.
Bar #8 should read |AGF G3:|
