Ruth's Waltz
This tune is by Pat Simmonds, who lives in Toronto. He's originally from New Zealand (making him not only a Pat, but an ex-pat, now that I think of it). Pat, a box player, a fiddler, and an exceptionally tasteful guitar player, hosts some Toronto's finest sessions, at the Dora Keogh and at McCarthy's, and he also is the host of the radio show Atlantic Ceilidh, Thursday evenings at 7pm on CIUT 89.5 FM.
Ruth's Waltz is really pretty, and a favourite every session that I've attended around town. Pat says that the tune was "written for my friend Ruth Dillon who is a fine singer songwriter in Galway." The tune is often paired with Midnight on the Water. I like it best when the accompaniment follows the scales--using relative minor chords as well as the majors.

Oopps.. TWO more things...
One, this is my transcription of the tune. Pat's may vary.
Two, to my ear, it sounds nicest when played with lots of swing, and not too straight.
