Gullane (polka)
Taught by Pete Cooper at a workshop in Bristol. This is the second of two tunes making up a set for the Lancers dance, the first being the slide Nell O'Sullivan's (already posted). When the tunes are played in conjunction is is important for the set dancers that the beat is regular throught the set. So a quarter note (crotchet) in this tune should be the same length as a dotted quarter note in Nell O'Sullivan's.
Here is a fuller version of this tune with bowings and ornaments as played by Pete Cooper. Note that, for the fiddlers, "u" = down-bow, "v" = up-bow, and "( )" encloses a series of notes played on one bow.

The metronome speed Pete Cooper suggested was 1 quarter note (crotchet) = 152.
This tune, Gullane, is not the same as "The Gullane" already posted on this site, and is derived from an 18c strathspey "Cameron's Got His Wife Again", a lively tune worth playing in its own right. I'll post it soon.

In the fuller version the first beat of the 4th bar of the second part is the chord of Bmin; this reflects the corresponding part (2nd half of bar 2 of the second part) of the original tune "Cameron's Got His Wife Again" (now posted) which is B.
