Name of the tune . . .
I got this tune off of "Leahy" by Leahy, and on this site this tune is listed as 'Shetland Reels,' though it is certainly not a reel, or even multiple reels. This tune is followed by 'captain campbell'

But . . .
I guess that (the name) doesn't really have a bearing on the tune anyhow. Like in 'I buried my wife and danced on her grave' . . . (unless it does have some bearing on the tune which I'm missing)
# Posted on September 5th 2003 by micelfife
Also
I mean, doesn't necessarily have an apparent bearing on the tune

Wow I'm being really incoherent
okay, just ignore the last couple of comments because that's not really what I meant to say at all, if you were going to comment on my comments . . . so just ignore it

Headlands
Hi - I know this tune as Headlands, and I'd play it as a 2/4 march. Followed by the Barren Rocks of Aden and then either Dornoch Links or Waiting for the Federals.

Headlands
Is a march written by the late Ronnie Cooper of Shetland (the name comes from a house)

2nd part
I was thinking of posting this tune. But I see it's here. However, it seems to be missing the 2nd part. Some Cape Breton fiddlers (which i am not) play this tune, i am pretty sure, as a 2 part strathspey.
The second part goes:
(3efg | a>e fd ce fe fe db a

aaaaaaaaah! How annoying. my second part got cut up.
(3efg ae fa ed ca de fa e2 (3efg ae fa fe dc cb ac b2 now repeat first part with 2nd ending
I cant put the dots in here because the carrot things dont work. But the pattern is dotted, undotted, undotted, dotted. And thats pretty strictly adhered to as I've heard it.
I know in Scotland, though, like drizz says, they play it as a march.

"The Headlands March"
~ gleaned from 'The Nottingham Music Database, their notes followed by their choice of chords. I couldn't find who did the notation or the choosing but this should give something else to compare. I've changed it from 2/4 to 4/4 for easier comparison:

Ronnie Cooper
Josephine Keegan has composed a powerful reel , named Ronnie Cooper, in honor of the great man. It is currently being profiled as tune of the week over in the comhaltas site, complete with video of musicians playing it, plus the notation.

Idiot
Who called this "Jean's Reel" ?
# Posted on July 19th 2007 by Kenny
Also
Come to that, why is it still titled, "Shetland Reels" , since both the correct title and composer have been identified ?
# Posted on July 19th 2007 by Kenny
Agreed -- "Shetland Reels" is frankly silly given that it's neither complete, nor even a single reel at all. I linked from Catriona MacDonald's "Bold" album, surprised that what was obviously a set recorded on the album was somehow turned into a single tune...and unrelated to this, obviously.
