The Mountains of Mourne - march?

This tune is NOT A REEL.

Source: RL O'Meally (piper) - Belfast, 1934
Transcription: g.m.p.

This tune seems to me a sort or 4/4 or 2/4 march, but it has two 3/4 bars.

This is the tune of the Mountains of Pomeroy not Mourne.

Mts of Pomoroy

I know this for 40 years as a march it seems to be badly written here as it should stare with a B introduction and then the D as a mimin and it should be in 4/4 time Peter OC

Mountains of Mourne

"Oh Mary this London's a wonderful sight .. etc" as sung by countless ballad groups is the Mountains of Mourne. I agree with comments already made that the tune shown here is more like the Mountains of Pomeroy march.

The strange mountains of Pomoroy / Pomeroy / Mourne

Peter, if you give me your email address I send you the mp3 file of this tune played by RL O'Meally on the pipes, so you can check my transcription. He plays the tune two times, and both the times there are two 3/4 bars.( maybe he was drunk when recorded the tune).
I don't know nothing about RL O'Meally. Does someone know something about him? RL what does it mean?

RL means you can't pronounce his name.

Mountains of Pomeroy

There is also a nice version (waltz) on the CD "The Road less travelled" from Tuatha.

Mountains of Pomeroy

While traditionally this tune was played as a march, Noel Hill does a fantastic version of it as a slow air on his latest CD - The Irish Concertina released in June 2005.
